JAI’s newest RGB prism color camera has high-speed 10 GigE interface

JAI has introduced a new 3.2-megapixel, 3-CMOS prism color camera in its Apex Series that runs at nearly double the fastest frame rate of its previous 3 x 3.2-megapixel models.

The new AP-3200T-10GE features a 10GBASE-T (10 GigE Vision) interface that delivers full resolution, 24-bit RGB output at 106 frames per second. 3 x 10-bit and 3 x 12-bit output are also supported.

Like JAI's other 10 GigE models, the AP-3200T-10GE's 10GBASE-T interface is equipped with integrated auto-negotiation technology, providing automatic backwards compatibility to NBASE-T (5 Gbps and 2.5 Gbps) and traditional 1000BASE-T (1 Gbps) output for customers running vision applications on these lower-speed Ethernet standards.

The new AP-3200T-10GE is part JAI's Apex Series of 3-CMOS prism color cameras, which are used by vision system designers to achieve better color differentiation and spatial precision than Bayer color cameras for their most demanding color vision applications. By adding a 10 GigE interface, JAI has made it possible for customers to take advantage of the long cable runs, networking capabilities, and other benefits of GigE Vision, without sacrificing the frame rate of their system.

The AP-3200T-10GE is built around three Sony PregiusTM IMX252 1/1.8-inch CMOS sensors with 2064 x 1544 pixels and pixel sizes of 3.45 µm x 3.45 µm. The gain (both analog and digital) and the exposure time can be set independently for the red, green and blue sensor channels allowing for better signal/noise management. This maximizes the dynamic range for each color channel resulting in improved image quality.

Like the other 3.2-megapixel Apex Series models, the new camera offers a range of advanced features supporting the most challenging color imaging applications. The color space conversion tool provides great flexibility in on-board color space conversion: including RGB to HSI color space conversion and RGB to CIE-XYZ color space conversion. (sRGB and Adobe RGB color spaces are also supported).

With the color enhancer tool it is possible to strengthen certain colors in the image (double emphasis) for additive hues (red, green and blue) and subtractive hues (cyan, magenta and yellow). This feature is particularly useful in certain applications such as microscopy and medical imaging.

Other features include multi-ROI support, edge enhancement, ALC (integrated auto gain and auto shutter), color pixel binning and chunk data.

The AP-3200T-10GE supports the Precision Time Protocol (IEEE 1588) enabling the synchronization of multiple cameras throughout a computer network. With this protocol, the timing of image capture can be precisely controlled with timestamps applied to images for easier analysis.

The AP-3200T-10GE features a C-mount lens mount, and an overall size of 62 x 62 x 86.5 mm. The camera is robustly built with a 50G shock rating and 3G vibration rating which, combined with an operating temperature range of -5°C to +45°C (ambient), enables the camera to operate reliably in a wide range of industrial environments.
