JAI adds two more 8K line scan cameras to Sweep+ Series

Written by JAI | September 16, 2020

JAI today introduced two additional 8K models in the its Sweep+ Series of prism-based line scan cameras. The SW-8000T-10GE and SW-8000T-SFP are 3-CMOS prism-based line scan cameras providing three-channel (R/G/B) color image capture at 8K (8192) pixel resolution per line. This follows the launch of two 4-CMOS multispectral (R/G/B/NIR) line scan cameras with 8K resolution earlier this month.

Both new models are equipped with three 8K CMOS sensors mounted on a three-way dichroic prism that separates the incoming light into red, green, and blue wavebands providing high color accuracy for line scan applications.

This 30-minute webcast examine the key advantages of prism-based cameras for certain types of line scan applications.

Advantages of Sweep+ Series prism technology in machine vision systems:
Unlike trilinear cameras which must use compensation algorithms to account for the spacing in their multi-line sensors, the three prism-mounted sensors are precisely aligned to a common optical path. Because of this, the prism cameras are not affected by vibrations and speed variations typical of objects on conveyor belts or in free-fall sorting. This makes them ideal for certain types of applications which can cause color fringes or "halos" in images from non-prism cameras due to constantly changing parallax and keystone effects.

Some examples include:

Belt/bulk sorting and inspection of fruits, vegetables, or other loose items.

Quality inspection of pharmaceutical products like blister packages.

Steel, textile, paper, or foil inspection where vibrations or undulations in the web are common.

Free-fall inspection of grains, coffee beans
nuts, or other similar items.

Recycling applications using belts to sort
various loose items like plastic.

Any other continuous motion applications like road inspection, PCB inspection and others.

 Product feature highlights:

  • Industry’s first prism-based R/G/B and R/G/B/NIR line scan cameras with 8K pixel resolution.
  • 8192 pixels (8K) per line for high resolution images.
  • For high speed applications: Up to 49 kHz for full resolution R/G/B and 36.0 kHz for R/G/B/NIR.
  • 3.75 x 5.78 µm rectangular pixels in a two-line arrangement supporting horizontal pixel binning, vertical pixel binning, or both for increased sensor sensitivity.
  • 10GBASE-T copper interface and 10GBASE-R fiber interface options provide high-speed, GenICam-compliant GigE Vision output.
  • 10 GigE interface with backwards compatibility to lower speed Ethernet standards.  (only when running over copper interface).
  • Built-in color space conversions.
  • Direct encoder connection to the camera.
  • Precision time protocol support (IEEE 1588)

Get the details:

10 GigE interface with backwards compatibility to lower speed Ethernet standards for maximum flexibility:
The SW-8000T-10GE and SW-8000Q-10GE models feature 10 GigE interfaces that also support backwards compatibility to 5 Gbps, 2.5 Gbps, and 1 Gbps Ethernet standards. The interface can automatically detect the capability of its PC or network connection and adjust accordingly for customers running vision applications on these lower-speed Ethernet standards.

Multiple output formats:
In the new SW-8000T models, the full resolution color image data can be transmitted in an uncompressed RGB format at up to 49,000 lines per second for 24-bit output or at up to 37,000 lines per second for 30-bit output. Alternatively, the cameras can output data in either of two YUV compressed formats (YUV422_8 or YUY422_8_UYVY) at up to 73,000 lines per second. This compares to the 4-sensor SW-8000Q multispectral models which provide color+NIR data at up to 36,000 or 37, 000 lines per second in various single-stream or dual-stream output configurations.

Pixel binning for increased sensor sensitivity and Region-of-Interest (ROI) function for faster line rates:
The cameras' 8K sensors feature 3.75 x 5.78 µm rectangular pixels in a two-line arrangement supporting horizontal pixel binning, vertical pixel binning, or both for increased sensor sensitivity in applications with low light conditions. Users can also adjust the line width to less than 8192 pixels using region-of-interest (ROI) settings, which increases the line rate.

Built-in color space conversion:
The SW-8000T and SW-8000Q line scan cameras have a built-in color space conversion function that allows the color output to be provided in HSI or CIEXYZ color format if needed, as well as offering conversions from standard RGB to the sRGB or Adobe RGB color spaces, or even to a user-defined custom RGB conversion matrix.

Precision Time Protocol (PTP):
The cameras also support the precision time protocol (IEEE 1588) for multi-camera networked configurations and can be connected directly to rotary encoders for synchronization with conveyor belts and other motion systems.

GigE Vision output via optical fiber connection (SFP+) for longer cables and low data transmission delay:
The SW-8000T-SFP and SW-8000Q-SFP models feature an “Enhanced Small Form-factor Pluggable” (SFP+) interface which delivers GigE Vision output via optical fiber cables. The SFP+ interface supports very long cables with low latency (low data transmission delay), low data transmission noise, as well as immunity to electromagnetic interference and system crosstalk.

Additional features:
Additional standard features include gain and black level adjustment, manual or automatic white balancing, shading correction, PRNU and DSNU correction, and chromatic aberration compensation.

All of the new 8K models can be ordered with two different lens mount options – a Nikon F-mount or an M52 mount.
