JAI expands its prism-based color line scan camera offerings with two new models featuring CoaXPress CXP-12 interface

Written by JAI | February 6, 2025
JAI expands its Sweep+ Series of prism-based R-G-B line scan cameras with the introduction of two new models featuring the high-speed CoaXPress 2.0 CXP-12 interface. The new models, SW-4000T-CXPA and SW-8000T-CXPA, offer impressive color imaging capabilities with resolutions of 4096 (4K) pixels and 8192 (8K) pixels per R-G-B line, respectively.

Fast scan rates with CoaXPress v 2.0 inteface:
Both models leverage the fast plug-and-play CoaXPress CXP-12 interface, supporting data output speeds of up to 12.5 Gbps via a single Micro-BNC cable. The SW-4000T-CXPA delivers uncompressed RGB streams at up to 97 kHz (97,000 lines per second), while the SW-8000T-CXPA achieves speeds of up to 49 kHz (49,000 lines per second).

Alternatively, users can select YUV422_8 formats providing 4K and 8K compressed color outputs at up to 73 kHz (73,000 lines/second) and 145 kHz (145,000 lines/second) respectively for the two models.
The interface also supports CoaXPress CXP-6 and CXP-3 configurations allowing for cable lengths up to 60 meters and 100 meters, respectively.

Power and trigger signals provided via the interface cable:
Trigger signals provided via the CoaXPress interface allow the cameras to be seamlessly integrated into multi-camera configurations. Power can be supplied either through the CoaXPress interface or the 12-pin connector.

Exceptional color accuracy with prism-based imaging technology:
These new models maintain the hallmark precision of JAI's Sweep+ color line scan cameras, featuring three CMOS sensors mounted on a dichroic prism. This design separates incoming light into red, green, and blue wavebands, ensuring exceptional color accuracy. The prism-based configuration eliminates issues such as color fringes or "halos" caused by vibrations or speed variations in conveyor belt or free-fall sorting applications.

Large pixels and vertical and horizontal binning options for enhanced sensitivity and higher dynamic range:
The SW-4000T-CXPA model offers two different pixel size options: Type A with 7.5 µm x 7.5 µm pixels and Type B with 7.5 µm x 10.5 µm pixels. The SW-8000T-CXPA model features rectangular pixels measuring 3.75 µm x 5.78 µm. The sensors in both models are designed in a two-line arrangement making it possible to do both vertical and horizontal pixel binning (1x2, 2x1, or 2x2) for enhanced light sensitivity, higher dynamic range and better signal to noise ratios.

Direct connection to encoders and more features:
The SW-8000T-CXPA and SW-4000T-CXPA cameras can be connected directly to rotary encoders for synchronization with conveyor belts and other motion systems. The cameras also allow users to increase scan rates by applying Region-of-Interest (ROI) settings, reducing line width and resolution below the maximum 4096 and 8192 pixels in steps of 16-pixels.

Additionally, the built-in color conversion functions enable outputs in HSI or CIEXYZ color formats. Users can also convert standard RGB outputs to sRGB, Adobe RGB, or even a custom-defined RGB Color Correction Matrix.

Standard features include channel-independent analog/digital gain, black level adjustment, manual or automatic white balancing, color shading correction, PRNU and DSNU correction, and chromatic aberration compensation.

Both the SW-4000T-CXPA and SW-8000T-CXPA models are available with two lens mount options:  F-mount or M52 mount.

Application examples:
